Thought this was an interesting development — another attempt to create a professional theater company for Charlotte is done.

For Mary Newsom this seems to call into question Charlotte’s arts credentials. Me, I pretty much see it as a natural development of the local arts scene and the underlying economy.

But note the way Steven Beauchem, of stageNEXT, throws in the towel, “Charlotte isn’t ready for locally produced, regional-level, professional theater.”

Isn’t ready. Not mature enough. Hasn’t grown into. I doubt Beauchem is completely aware of the subtext here — or maybe he is — but it is more of World Class worry that always leads to bad fits for Charlotte.
