That is not exactly what Charlotte has planned for roads in the city, but it is close:

The so-called urban street design guidelines focus less on getting cars from one point to another and more on making streets attractive and safe for pedestrians and bicyclists.

They recommend shorter block lengths, wider sidewalks, more street connections, narrower streets in some locations and bike lanes.

Narrower streets will be a joy for package and freight delivery in mixed-use neighborhoods, but hey, we’re in fantasy land where all anyone does is stroll down the extra-wide sidewalks to spend lots of discretionary income.
