That which is easily dished out is not easily taken, as in the case of government and rules. The Town of Marshalll has been accused of illegally removing asbestos from the site of its future town hall. North Carolina requires any asbestos to be disturbed in renovations to be removed by a licensed contractor. I admit, as a kid, I used to play with asbestos, and I’m still alive. I have a colleague who doesn’t have problems playing with radium. Madison County has its reputation for doing as it pleases, and Katherine Bond, an architect working on the renovations wrote a letter to the Board of Aldermen stating in part:
Unfortunately, there are no standard operating procedures or avenues of recourse through the current town administration in which serious allegations of workplace safety violations can be addressed.
