The Saints’ Super Bowl victory over the Colts drew more viewers than any other TV program in history, topping the 1983 final episode of MASH.
Interesting that on such an occasion the baseball analogies start popping up. The AP blurb in today’s N&R print edition said MASH’s 105 million viewers “has proven as durable as Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs until topped by Hank Aaron,” while Alan Alda commented in the NYT that “We hit it out of the park, and so did New Orleans. Do I have the sports analogy right?”
I’ve watched a lot of MASH, and I certainly understand Hawkeye’s sense of humor. Maybe he was kidding, but maybe he’s just not a sports guy.
