The Boston Globe reports that school districts will have to receive loans to finish 50 school construction projects that came in millions of dollars over budget.

While the education establishment is blaming the cost overruns on higher priced materials, state officials found that school districts were building larger schools than state rules mandated. For example, one school provides 183 square feet per student, while state rules call for 115 to 135 square feet per student. This school is over $9 million over budget.

Fortunately, another school district reduced the cost of a high school by scrapping plans for a greenhouse.
