The preliminary School Construction Needs Assessment has been released by DPI. It says that the state has $9.7 billion in school construction needs over the next five years. Here are some heavy hitters:

Wake: $1.4 billion
Durham: $348 million
Guilford: $474 million
CMS: $910 million
Forsyth: $312 million

The report is made up of surveys completed by the local school districts and approved by the school board and county commissioners. Obviously, there is nothing objective about the report. Therefore, the estimates are likely on the high end. Nevertheless, expect the report to be used as ammunition in upcoming school bond referendums.
