Reports each year from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction suggest North Carolina public school students are getting better and better at mastering the skills taught in school. A recent opinion piece in the Greensboro News & Record suggests that message is misleading. Authored by JLF Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops, the op ed questions the quality of the state’s standardized testing program. Stoops also drew attention this week for his arguments against extending the school day and the school year, in an article for the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs. Meanwhile, N.C. Education Alliance Fellow Kristen Blair discussed the problem of student cheating in a column picked up the Duplin Times.
