Once again, we see the trouble with forecasting on a large scale (Atlantic basin, much less the planet).  From the story:

NEW YORK (Reuters) -The 2007 hurricane season may be less severe than
forecast due to cooler-than-expected water temperatures in the tropical
Atlantic
, private forecaster WSI Corp said on Tuesday.”Because the ocean temperatures have not yet rebounded from the
significant drop in late spring, we have decided to reduce our forecast
numbers slightly,” said Todd Crawford, a WSI seasonal forecaster.

Now, I don’t say any of this to say we won’t have a serious storm anytime soon.  After all August and September are just around the bend.  I say it to illustrate that all of these systems are still far too complex for our current scientific understanding to address (IMHO).

How are the temperatures in the ocean cooler?  Where is that discussion?
