Ah yes, here we have a CMS security guard arrested for dealing cocaine. Even police are stunned:
“We were actually shocked to see that he was working for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system,” said Darrin White, a member of the Hickory Grove street crimes unit.
He said Brown is a security associate for CMS.
“We saw the jacket hanging in the closet with the drug paraphernalia in it and we saw his ID on the counter with some more drug paraphernalia beside it,” White said.
Police said they found cocaine inside his CMS security jacket.
And it gets better — or worse, actually. CMS evidently knew Brown had been arrested for defrauding the Employment Security Commission before it hired him. You see, CMS policy allows anyone convicted of a non-violent misdemeanor to still be hired as a security guard.
“This was not indicative of a failed system,” a CMS spokeswoman concluded.
Oh really?
Wonder what parents think about that conclusion. You know, the parents who are required by CMS to submit references and consent to a background check up to and including fingerprinting in order to be able to volunteer at their child’s own school.
Then there is the strong possibility that, judging from CMS reaction to Brown’s arrest, there are other CMS “security guards” working in the schools right now that have criminal records. But hey, the policy is being followed, nothing to see here.
Failed system? You decide.
