Republicans think they have a great chance to pick up this seat in Gaston County from retiring Sen. David Hoyle. In the Republican primary, Realtor Kathy Harrington is in great shape. With 38 of 40 precincts reporting, Harrington ? whose husband Michael served in the state House ? has 57 percent of the vote. The winner faces Annette Carter, chairwoman of the Gaston County Board of Education, in the general.
