This column in The Daily Mail about
the growing arrogance of bicyclists reminded me of every time I go to
Charlotte and drive down Selwyn Avenue on a Saturday or Sunday
afternoon:

Gentility and modesty have been replaced by aggression and arrogance.
Brimming with hostility, utterly indifferent to those around them, they
appear to think they are above the law.

Normal rules about red lights, pavements and one-way streets are
treated as a matter of supreme indifference by this new army of
Lycra-clad maniacs, whose every action demonstrates their contempt for
pedestrians and motorists.

And I’m one of those people who can’t wait for July 1 and the start
of the Tour de France, so I’m not a knee-jerk cycling hater. By the
way, three teams in the Tour this year are led by Americans: George
Hincapie of Discovery, Levi Leipheimer of Gerolsteiner and Floyd Landis
of Phonak. That’s impressive.
