This is odd.

Michael Tye, the Independence teacher and swim coach arrested and charged with taking nude pictures of students back in December, evidently quietly entered into a plea deal with prosecutors recently. The Cabarrus County jail Web site indicates that Tye was sentenced on one each count of indecent liberties with a student and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. This resulted in a five-year sentence. Tye was initially charged with three counts of each offense.

That is what is known from the available on-line records. Here is where it gets weird. The Dept of Corrections has Tye in the system as an active probation and parole inmate, but there is no sentence or supervision history. Nor does Tye appear in the NC sex offender registry.

A curious person might think that authorities are attempting to build a larger case involving Tye’s photographic exploits and any online activities with other persons who would be willing to pay for such photos. Needless to say there has not been any announcement from CMS on Tye’s most recent legal developments.

Stay tuned.
