U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) is fast becoming a thorn in Nancy Pelosi’s side. Last week he went to bat for freedom of religion in the flag-folding flap, and now he’s weighing in on actually enforcing America’s immigration laws:

A new immigration enforcement bill that would remove the jobs magnet for illegal immigration is expected to be introduced in the House today. The SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement) will be sponsored by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and has already begun earning bi-partisan support.

Shuler’s bill takes the “attrition through enforcement” approach, seen as a middle ground between amnesty and the “send them all back now” approaches. Since it is a moderate approach to this thorny problem, many observers feel it will gain wide support. Time will tell.
