Let’s fix up the conclusion to today’s Uptown editorial on admitting illegals to community colleges, a step the system’s board just declined to take. Italics add the changes:

North Carolina’s community colleges are critical links to training for those who live and work in the state. The board must honor access to education for all who live and work in the state.

Whoops, that does not make any sense, does it? It is illegal for undocumented workers to work in the state. Why would North Carolina taxpayers aide and abet breaking the law? I’d much rather fund marijuana fields if we are gonna go that route.

Bonus Observation: Funny how after weeks of ducking the issue, Bev Perdue makes the motion today for the system’s board to adopt a policy to exclude illegals from the system. How much more political a decision can you get? There is no principle at work here, just the understanding that voters overwhelmingly oppose extending the benefit of publicly-funded higher education to illegal immigrants.
