Sylva Alderman Harold Hensley does not want a steep slope ordinance. Taxes just went up, and he doesn’t want an ugly scene at the public hearing. Further, he says there aren’t that many slopes in the town. Alderman Maurice Moody disagrees. Lower density, native vegetation and adequate lighting are needed on slopes. Planner Jim Aust believes in the ordinance as a means of mitigating stormwater runoff and preventing hazardous landslides.
