No, it is not CMS students shooting heroin in class.

It is a teacher. A teacher arrested two years ago for possession of drug paraphernalia in Buncombe County.

Terry McDonald was an art teacher at Bruns Avenue Elementary. CMS officials say they found the door to school’s art room locked with a sign claiming that classes were canceled thru Friday, the last day of school. When an assistant principal unlocked the door, they found McDonald preparing to shoot up.

I would say something profound at this point, but I’m at a loss.

Update: Here’s the money graf from the Observer:

Gorman said he remains concerned about how to detect criminal charges if employees fail to report them. He said in other states where he has worked, police are required to notify school districts when their employees are arrested.

CMS essentially has a don’t ask-don’t tell policy with regard to criminal conduct by employees. Employees are supposed to report arrests to their supervisors under pain of firing if they do not. Now how often does that happen?

Local officials, at least, could remedy this situation by directing CMPD and local law enforcement to report arrest info directly to CMS.

Let’s see if that happens.
