I like it. People are turning to crowdsourcing rather than the federal government to fund things like their research into ferns. That way, only people who value pet projects, or who can be tricked into parting with their resources on behalf of pet projects, will get stuck with the bill. That will help the economy as the former class of people will build up activities with promising potential for fostering their interests, and the latter class will at some pace or another grow wary of shysters who can’t hide in a bottomless pit of government red tape.
