While reviewing free and reduced-lunch verification summaries from North Carolina’s 115 school districts, I came across a disturbing figure. In fact, it’s so disturbing I might have trouble sleeping tonight.
In Edenton-Chowan Schools, there were 666 students enrolled in F&R lunch for 2007-08 who were eligible for the program automatically based on their status (“migrant, income-eligible Head Start, etc.”).
I wonder if that number is tied to Chowan County’s financial meltdown. I equally wonder if we could be seeing prophecy fulfilled right before our eyes.
