New Orleans’s governor, Kathleen Blanco, clinging frantically to Bush’s coattails, stated that she would take “full responsibility” for the failures in response that occurred in the aftermath of Katrina.

But, before you wipe that tear from your eye, let it shimmer on the surface as I tell you, without surprise, that Blanco quickly added that as with the 9-11 tragedy, the federal government should foot the bill for 100 percent of the costs from the disaster.

This bill includes, according to the Gov., expanding health care coverage now and into the future, as well as the expansion of other social safety nets. But her vision lacks specifics. I suppose she’s just waiting for the money before she figures out what utopian dream she can peddle to the many residents who hopefully will realize the failures of the welfare state gone ape.
