You’ll find plenty of stories this evening and tomorrow morning focusing on the rise of Rep. Joe Hackney, D-Orange, to the top post in the N.C. House.

Shortly after Hackney’s 68-52 election over Rep. Paul Stam, R-Wake, lawmakers held their first substantive discussion about temporary House rules. 

Members approved the temporary rules with an 82-37 vote. We’ll have a more detailed story tomorrow morning for Carolina Journal
