One of the key issues to remember about the recent Citizens United case is what would have happened if the Supreme Court hadn’t ruled the way that it did.
Under the law, it would have been possible for the government to send people to jail for publishing books or airing movies on television. It is kind of difficult to preach to China about free speech rights when we were criminalizing political speech ourselves.
