The Journal reports the City of Winston-Salem has gone to court in order to shut down the Red Rooster:

City attorneys filed the city’s petition for an injunction Friday in Forsyth Superior Court. The court action tries to prevent the property owners from allowing a nightclub to operate at the location of the Red Rooster, which is on Jonestown Road. It alleges that the property owners allowed criminal behavior to happen at the Red Rooster and that the property is a nuisance because of problems with previous nightclubs at that site.

City Manager Lee Garrity said “it’s not one incident that drives this.” That one incident, of course, is the shooting death Winston-Salem Police Officer Howard Plouff. But you really have to wonder. City governments often have the urge to show the public they’re doing something after it’s too late.
