Haywood Community College needs a creative arts space. County Commissioner Kevin Ensley doesn’t like the cost. He referred to square footage costs for county buildings and other community colleges in the state. HCC got its relative square footage cost down by adding an outdoor kiln room. It also doesn’t have to compete with land acquisition costs included in other projects’ numbers.

In addition to brick and mortar, taxpayers will be paying the following costs of compliance:

$80,000 for a commissioning contract
$110,000 for inspections
$999,000 for design
$13,650 for surveying
$36,000 for road repairs.
