Squeaking is in the eye of the beholder

This is how Newsweek shrill artist Eleanor Clift describes Republican Brian Bilbray’s victory this week in California’s 50th District:

Bilbray squeaked through with a 49 percent plurality.

Funny, but neither she nor any other MSM pundit viewed Bill
Clinton’s 1996 victory that way, and he got an identical 49 percent of
the popular vote. All I remember are hosannahs for a thorough thrashing
of Bob Dole. In 1992 it was pretty much the same. Clinton won a
resounding victory then, too, with a whopping 43 percent of the popular
vote.
