According to an article on the WXII News 12 website, the Department
of Motor Vehicles has offered to replace anyone?s license plate, provided the
license plate contains the acronym ?WTF.? For all of you that aren?t technologically
savvy, a quick Google search should inform you of what this stands for. My
first concern was how many people the DMV actually has keeping up with internet
acronyms. Given the ever changing internet landscape, it must be a pretty
sizeable force. One of my colleagues suggested that there might even be a whole
department.
Luckily, the article on this important issue also has a link
to internet acronyms that parents should know.
I have to admit, I didn?t know half of these. Though, that?s probably a
good thing. ?WTF? isn?t in there, but a few other interesting ones are. All I
know is that I?ll be keeping my eyes peeled this afternoon on the way home for
those cars that are being driven by ?MOOS? saying ?TD2M.? Then again, things could get disturbing if the
DMV starts handing out license plates reading ?IWSN? to just anyone.
I can understand a ban on words that are obscene, but at
some point it gets obsessive. There are
so many acronyms; it doesn?t seem practical to allow people to exchange all of
them. And no, I am not ?NIFOC.?
