The State Board of Education is convening an independent Blue Ribbon Commission on Testing and Accountability. Thank the John Locke Foundation for bringing the heat on the State Board of Education and their lousy testing program.
The commission will review:
1) Testing requirements in state and federal law and potential modifications;
2) The value of state-developed student tests versus commercially available nationally-normed tests; and
3) Potential modifications to the state’s high school, middle school and elementary school accountability systems.
Of course, the commission is loaded with education establishment folk, so substantive change is unlikely. No Republican legislators were appointed to the commission, for example.
