There’s some federal grant money floating around Davidson County.

The Lexington City is trying to figure out what to do with the former Lexington Furniture Plant No. 1. For starters, the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments has a good idea: Form a committee.

Representatives from the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments appeared before the council Monday to suggest guidelines for the first Lexington Brownfields Redevelopment Committee, which seems likely to be formally established in July

Monday’s presentation was the latest step in a pilot initiative set in motion by $200,000 in grant funds, which PTCOG received in September 2006 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. PTCOG will use those resources to study Lexington and two similarly-sized cities, Reidsville and Eden, all of which have seen economic hardships due to manufacturer closings.
