The statistic that has sparked the most interest for my seatmate, Hunter Bacot, is the straight-ticket voting number from the N.C. Board of Elections.

Democrats: 596, 422 (61 percent)

Republicans: 371,481 (39 percent)

That’s with 3 of 100 counties reporting.

In the big three races, Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory is running the strongest among Republicans but is still trailing Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue in the governor’s race 53-44 with 9 percent of precincts reporting.

(Local tax votes seem to be faring about as poorly as they have over the past year.)
