Looks like North Carolina might be surrounded by marriage amendment states pretty soon. It’s early going, but with 16 of 2059 precincts reporting, a constitutional amendment on marriage has a 5,781 to 1,795 vote advantage. That according to a quick Harold Online article. I’ve heard on MSNBC that the amendment will likely pass in Virginia as well.

Remember back before the lottery was legal, supporters constantly made the “peer pressure” argument that N.C. should approve the lotto since all the states around us have it? Well, does that same argument hold true for a marriage amendment? Somehow, I doubt the state House and Senate leadership will take that line of reasoning.
