Yet another county thinks it is time to deploy the easy-money revenue stream of legalizing alcohol sales. The Henderson County Board of Commissioners has approved holding a referendum on the matter. What greater economic good is there than availing a high-tax, and sometimes addictive, commodity that artificially comforts the medulla oblongata to one’s once-productive subjects?
I’ve said what I need to, but if you want a news story, interview a couple people and write a few lame quotes. Conclude what proponents and opponents are going to say. Give some history about alcohol referenda. Then, tell how alcohol sales benefit children, education, and even outreach efforts to combat problem drinking. Lastly, act surprised that idle people in a lame economy tend to blow more funds on “recreation.”
