The KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Charter School in Anne Arundel County is closing due to an inability in finding enough room to house the school. KIPP schools are known for their high expectations and high performance of lower income students. The school needs a little less than 200 seats, and has offered to pay as much as $125,000 annually.
This story from the Washington Post again reveals how the ?system? looks out for the ?system?s? best interest. The operators of the charter school have asked the ?system? for space to lease in a middle school that has the capacity of over 1,400 seats and has more than 900 vacant seats. But the ?system?s? officials have turned down the offer. Interesting the ?system? is planning on opening a International Baccalaureate program at the school, and said they would ?welcome? families back at the school. BUT families don?t want to be a part of the ?system,? they want the KIPP program! Another example of how the ?system? refuses to change! Reality, this is all about the ?system,? not the students. Meanwhile, the GOMs (Gatekeepers of Mediocrity) wonder why parents and education reformers get MAD!
