Things aren’t any more clear today over at A&T than they were yesterday, when N.C. A&T’s Board of Trustees rescinded its decision to name the new School of Education after former Chancellor James Renick.

A&T board member Steve Watson tells the N&R the recent internal audit was definitely a factor in the board’s decision:

“Some board members have personal agendas and saw it fit to use the opportunity of the audit as a way to take the naming of the building away from Dr. Renick. I think it’s tacky, and it’s shameful. I think the board members who are responsible really did a great disservice to N.C. A&T.”

Watson would know these things, but his version has a slight credibility problem: He was unable to attend Monday’s board meeting. The person who really needs to say tell us what went down is Board Chairwoman Velma Speight-Buford, who so far has been MIA.

Meanwhile, the N&R editorializes:

A&T’s leaders are within their rights to call campus buildings whatever they want. But with a new chancellor, Stanley Battle, soon to arrive the energy spent on undoing rather than doing, and in looking back rather than moving forward, seems anything but constructive.
