Checking back to see if DesignLine USA — Mayor Anthony Foxx’s full-time employer — had paid its property tax bill, and the answer is no. The hybrid bus maker still owes $16,566 — including $560 in interest penalties — on $1.2m. worth of property, according to online county records.

Also of note, the old African-American Cultural Center that the city of Charlotte deeded back to the Little Rock AME Zion Church in November 2009 — after the public built a new 44,000 square foot Af-Am Cultural Center across from the Westin as part of a $127m. “arts campus” — still has an outstanding property tax bill of $7800, according to online county records.

The 6700-square foot structure was valued at $572,100 by the county in April of last year. There is no record of an appeal on that value or the taxable status of the parcel. The building dates to 1910 and was the original home of the church before it was converted into the previous Af-Am center.
