In John?s Daily Journal this morning, he gives a good assessment of the tax negotiations going on at the General Assembly.  What with a very small group of members making decisions and reports gleaned mostly from snippets of news and press releases, the negotiation process is not at all transparent.

John writes,
No doubt, the higher tax rates would be sold as ?temporary.?

One thing to remember, this tax package is designed and will have to cover the huge expansion of social services created by the infusion $6.1 billion into North Carolina by way of direct allocation of federal stimulus money.  House Finance Chair, Paul Luebke, D-Guilford explained this during the House debate on taxes. When the federal money runs out in three years, where will the money to continue these services come from?  You guessed it ? NC taxpayers.  So any talk of ?temporary? taxes is in fact a sales job.   Don’t be fooled.
