Yesterday’s ouster of Hank Greenberg from AIG, which he has led for
40 years may provide some additional impetus to the idea of term limits
or impeachments for Supreme Court justices. Michael Eisner and Dan
Rather have been forced out in other contexts. Each of the private
sector examples shows how pressure can lead to a transfer of power
after a serious abuse or a history of smaller miscues. Justice Anthony
Kennedy only has to deal with angry editorials on the left and right,
not removal from office.
