Interesting situation the Greensboro City Council finds itself in with the White Street landfill and former Mayor Keith Holliday, but — as John Hammer notes—- the “situation the council finds itself in now was started by Johnson, who expressed a strong belief that technology was the answer.”

Remember how Hammer said the “stupidity cannot be exaggerated” when then-Mayor Yvonne Johnson called a special meeting to present Ulturnagen’s $500 million plasma torch. But Johnson’s running for council again, so she’s caught on quick that visions of ‘alternative waste technologies’ that can spur economic development’ are just that —visions.

Nor does the council —except Robbie Perkins—- seem real enthusiastic about a regional solution. Which tells me this issue could come to a head at some point, after council spends who-knows-how long sorting through the RFPs.
