Took note when reading yesterday’sN&R front-pager on the cuts Guilford County Schools would endure due to the Senate’s proposed spending plan that Pearce Elementary School principal Erik Naglee said his school had already lost $30 million in the past three years. I thought that sounded extreme, but since I’m no longer surprised by what I read in paper, I just moved on.
Sure enough in today’s N&R print edition comes the correction that Pearce Elementary had only lost $30,000 in the past three years. The N&R also reported GCS would lose 333 positions in the Senate’s proposal. Anyone want to go for 33? Not suggesting the N&R misreported that figure —but by the same token GCS has been forecasting apocalyptic layoffs for years now, and they just never seem to materialize.
