I read with interest the long thread discussing Hoggard’s water-toting for Greensboro City Manager Mitchell Johnson. Note that Spagnola once again proves that he knows Johnson better than Johnson knows himself:

…More importantly, everytime he tries to defend himself he makes it worse with bullshit excuse like this one he gave to you to pass on to the rest of us.

….Every time he tries to spin his way out of it, he gets himself tied up in knots. At some point it should have occurred to him that he is nowhere near as smart and clever as he thinks he is.

This only again proves that every time Mitch opens his mouth to try and make himself look better it backfires, makes matters worse, and raises more questions than it answers.

This is why the consensus that he is incompetent in his role as City Manager has been reached. He just doesn’t get it.

Precisely. I’ve said before I’d probably have more respect for Johnson if he’d just keep quiet and take even more heat instead of awkwardly attempting to defend himself. I can’t emphasize enough the release of the Brady-Sanders tapes last year when Johnson punctuated each tape with a look of utter disgust in a clear effort to claim moral high ground over former Police Chief David Wray in front of the City Council. The problem was the tapes had absolutely nothing to do with the immediate controversy surrounding Wray.

When talking about Johnson’s performance as city manager, it’s important to keep the bigger picture in mind, the indescribably bad shape the City of Greensboro is in right now.
