Businesses and wealthy people often to productive things with money, leading to jobs and better products at lower prices for middle class and poor people, whereas the government usually squanders it on political trinkets. That is why nations with small governments grow in prosperity while nations with huge government grow slowly or even diminish in prosperity as resources are wasted and capital is consumed.
