By my count, more than half (28 out of 52) of the supposedly fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats voted FOR HR 3962 — the nearly 2,000-page bureaucratic monstrosity that, if implemented, will stifle the economic prospects of this generation, and many generations to come. I cringe when I think about what is to come for my stepdaughter’s small children, who will enter the work force in the next 15 to 20 years.

To illustrate the clean break between what the Blue Dogs profess, and what the majority of them voted for last night, be sure to visit the coalition’s home page, which carries a national debt tally. By the way, here’s what the tally is, according to the Blue Dog site:

Our National Debt

Currently, the U.S. Debt is estimated at:

$11,226,807,380,955.11

Your share of today’s public debt is:

$36,683.01

Oh heck, why worry? I’m sure HR 3962 — which 28 of the 52 voted FOR last night — won’t have any impact on that tally at all. Programs are never expanded and things rarely cost more than the projections say, right?

Also, take a moment to review the Blue Dog mission that’s posted on the group’s site. It includes this statement which, in light of last night’s vote, is laugh-out-loud funny: (emphasis is mine)

In the 111th Congress, the Coalition intends to continue to make a difference in Congress by forging middle-ground, bipartisan answers to the current challenges facing the Country. A top priority will be to refocus Congress on balancing the budget and ridding taxpayers of the burden the debt places on them. The group also expects to be involved in a variety of issues, where the stale extreme left vs. right approach requires a breath of fresh air.
