Hamilton College has decided to kill off the Alexander Hamilton Center, which would have added some serious, non-leftist teaching and scholarship to the school. Inside Higher Ed has the story and the numerous comments are revealing. They range from alums who regret having recently contributed to others who think the school did the right thing by squelching a “right wing” project. Interesting that anything that isn’t resolutely hostile to capitalism is branded as “right wing” and therefore something to be avoided.

Professor Robert Paquette, who would have been the Center’s director, wrote about the prospect for the Pope Center here.

I think he’s right in saying that the furor over the governance of the Center was just a red herring to disguise ideological opposition.
