The Asheville Citizen-Times has a nice article about appropriate leadership in a Constitutional republic. It begins:

U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows has lost his gavel as a congressional subcommittee chairman after bucking his party’s leadership by voting against a fast-track trade authority.

But the two-term Cashiers Republican said he will vote with the wishes of his constituents over the wishes of his leadership.

“I didn’t run for Congress to be a yes vote for House Republican leadership,” Meadows said in a statement released Sunday. “I came to Congress to make the voices of the people of Western North Carolina heard.”
