Let’s face it – the NCAE achieves most of the goals on their legislative agenda every year. So, when the NCAE launches an Action Alert, you know legislators must have failed in their duty to do exactly what the fleet of NCAE lobbyists asked them to do. In other words, the eduburglars want legislators to shut up and put the money in the bag.

The following is an example:

Teacher Cadets Program

An important initiative for generating interest among young people in the teaching profession. Current level of funding: $121,500; NCAE requested $278,500 additional funding on a recurring basis. House: $500,000 non-recurring dollars for 2007. Senate: No expansion dollars for Teacher Cadets. Senate leaders apparently believe giving $1M to a national firm to assist UNC Schools of Education to increase their productivity of teachers would be a more effective way of getting folks interested in teaching as a profession.

The Teacher Cadet Program is a pricey NCAE brainwashing program for high school Juniors and Seniors. The NCAE is miffed that the Senate failed to follow the lead of the House in throwing new money – per NCAE’s budget request – at the program. Nevertheless, I expect expansion dollars for the program to magically reappear in the final budget.
