Greensboro Coliseum director Matt Brown and N&R reporter Margaret Banks get into it over Banks’ coverage of the City Council’s meeting on the possible purchase of the Canada Dry property.

Brown thinks the N&R is shoving the ACC Hall of Champions down everyone’s throat when the true plan for the property is for a welcome center that would also house the offices of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greensboro Sports Commission. The ACC Hall of Champions is part of a long-range plan that would get underway after that first phase of the project is complete.

Brown also disputes how long the property has been on the market. Banks reported it’s been on the market for about a year, while Brown says the ‘For Sale’ sign has “been up for so long it has mold on it.” But what’s the difference? The bottom line is the city and the state are looking to rehab a property that private developers couldn’t do anything with. That’s never good for the taxpayer.

Update: Brown apologizes to Mayor Keith Holliday and council member Tom Phillips.
