More anti-big box dogma as the search for a “fix” for Eastland Mall stumbles on. As long as the premise remains flawed — big box retail did not kill Eastland — the range of solutions will not improve the situation.

One non-starter: Government subsidies to develop some planner’s “vision” of what the site should be. Bzzzt. Wrong.

Goal number one should be to improve the traffic flow to and from the area. Without that, whatever is built there will be a failure. Next, crime. Try enforcing the law up and down Central Ave. Crazy talk, I know.
