As about as clear a statement yet made that Jennifer Roberts and company intend to argue that Mecklenburg County cannot possibly cut its property tax rate to a revenue neutral rate after the reval raises values county-wide. Why? For the children.

Without additional property tax revenue the county will not be able to fund CMS at higher levels than would otherwise be the case, ie, “protect education.”

That will mean tax hikes of about 15 percent across the county’s Southern burbs, which make up about 45 percent of the county’s residential tax base, if recent Power Points from the county are taken at face value.

Who can object to that?
