Hey, not a week after I talk to the Libertarian Party of Mecklenburg about transit oriented development, up pops TOD in two news stories. In one, Dilworth residents complain that a Lowe’s store planned for South Blvd. does not mesh with TOD plans for the area. They are right, it does not, “big box” stores never do. But note that this has nothing to do with how best to actually improve the current partially vacant site. A Lowe’s would probably work there and generate lots of tax revenue, issues secondary to TOD.

And another site on South Blvd. is slated to receive a 280-unit, lo-rise apartment building near a planned light rail stop. This is another hallmark of TOD, increasing residential density near transit hubs. Expect more such lo and mid-rise developments in the future.
