The Journal reports:

The Heart of the Triad planning effort will get no money from the state in the coming year, but those close to the project say that work can continue, although at a slower pace.

Area chambers of commerce had asked the N.C. General Assembly for money to continue work on the plan, which would guide development in an area of about 6,300 acres in Guilford and Forsyth counties.

A state Senate bill had earmarked $750,000 for the project in 2007-08 and $1.5 million in 2008-09, but the requests did not make it into the Senate budget passed Thursday. That means no state money for the Heart of the Triad, at least for this year.
