- Last day of school and a highly recruited high school QB, already committed to a top-flight college program before his senior year, is receiving oral sex from a 9th grader in an empty school room. In walks the school’s principal.
- As part of the discipline process, the father-in-law of the QB’s coach — a top school system official — recuses himself. After an unexplained delay of some weeks, an interim school system official imposes a three week suspension from school. This means that the QB could miss up to seven weeks of the upcoming season due to practice requirements after the suspension is served.
- As a result, the QB’s father — a minister — inquires about transferring his son to a private school. Several ostensibly church-affiliated schools nearby are very interested.
- At the same time the public HS comes under investigation as a result of the large number of players whose families maintain multiple residences across school boundaries. The existence of this investigation is not publicly disclosed.
- Also unexplained is the absence of any criminal charges in the matter, which at a minimum could be indecent exposure up to sexual assault on a minor depending on the age of the individuals involved.
- The local news media — particularly the local daily newspaper, which had been in near daily contact with the QB’s father during the QB’s recruitment — resolve not to report any details of the case, nor press the school system on unanswered or puzzling matters related to the incident. This directly contradicts previous reporting on similar incidents involving local HS football players across many, many years.
