While the Triangle Transit Authority fiddles with models in its effort to generate ridership numbers sufficient to secure federal funds for the $759 million light rail system, new JLF Health and Human Services Policy Analyst Nancy Winter discovered firsthand it’s flexibility consumers look for in public transit—exactly what light rail can’t offer. Winter, a Durham resident, explained to readers of Thursday’s Herald-Sun that TTA’s vanpool service, which saves her cash and aggravation, is now her transportation choice for the commute to Raleigh. “My experience as a new TTA customer tells me that there will be interest in alternatives to single-occupant driving, but only if they are flexible enough to meet individual needs,” she wrote.
